Habitat for Humanity has built more than 200,000 houses worldwide. This means that more than 1,000,000 people in more than 3,000 communities have safe, decent, and affordable shelter.

Patuxent Habitat for Humanity's goal is to have a significant impact on our community by bringing people from all walks of life together to help their neighbors in need to realize better lives by providing decent and affordable housing in Calvert and St. Mary’s counties.

How does it work? Patuxent Habitat for Humanity builds houses using volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials. Houses are sold at no profit to selected families with no interest loans issued over a fixed period. The cost of these houses differ relative to location, labor, land, and building materials. A Patuxent Habitat for Humanity house in this area averages approximately $110,000. Affordable monthly mortgage payments are repaid within 20 to 30 years and are used to support the construction of more houses.

The Habitat partner-family is required to invest “sweat equity” hours into the construction of their house. This produces a feeling of home ownership among family members and fosters the development of positive relationships within the community.

If you've had the pleasure of meeting a Habitat partner-family member you will most likely see them volunteering at the next home building project, working in the ReStore or, at special events.

Patuxent Habitat for Humanity needs volunteers to help build, assist in the office, work in the Patuxent Habitat ReStore, serve on committees, and help with special projects that benefit the organization. Donations are much needed and appreciated.
